Just a few years ago, the arrival of the holidays meant 2-3 months of real fun for me. Today – although the calendar summer lasts three months – I can afford at most two weeks of “real” vacation. You probably feel the same way – few employers will let you go on a longer vacation. For the rest of the time, you have to cope somehow so as not to wither from grief. But what to do? Luckily, I have a few ideas for you on what to do in the city in the summer.
*Since I live in Warsaw, some of the suggestions will be directly related to Warsaw. However, some of the ideas can be used if you live in other cities.
1. Outdoor pools
When the heat is pouring from offer the right added value the sky, it is really hard to sit in your apartment – and everyone involuntarily starts thinking about escaping to the water. If you don’t have a car to go “out of town”, take advantage of the offer of outdoor pools. I especially recommend Baseny Moczydło, which probably has the largest recreational area among Warsaw’s outdoor pools (I emphasize this fact because during my last visit to the relatively small outdoor pool in Szczęśliwice I was unable to find a single free spot to even spread out a towel). Take a towel, flip-flops, water and cash. If possible, leave your phone and documents at home (or use the option to leave valuables in a deposit – thanks to this you will be able to easily enter the water without worrying about your belongings).
Of course the pool is crowded, towels are next to towels, but you know what? Despite everything, today, as I was lounging on my towel, straight out of the pool, I felt for a moment like I was on a real vacation. And that’s what it’s all about!
Tip for visitors to Moczydło : to avoid queuing at the main ticket offices, use the entrance from Al. Prymasa Tysiąclecia.
2. Indoor swimming pools
If the weather is bad, or you just want what is a low cart abandonment rate? to cool off after work, it’s really worth going to indoor pools. For me, with the current heat, it’s a really wonderful alternative to running , which from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. resembles running in a hot oven. Interestingly, during the holidays, from Monday to Friday, the pools are empty, so you can swim in them, use the sauna and really relax.
3. Urban Explorer
Have you ever thought about being a liechtenstein number tourist and visiting the city you live in? When you travel around the world and visit unknown cities, you try to get to know them as best you can. So why not visit the city you live in? You’ll be surprised how many interesting things you can learn this way. Try to plan a day this weekend to visit your city. Work out a route, check the information on the internet. Maybe even buy a pocket guide?
4. Kayaks
If you live in Warsaw, you can also go kayaking – for example, on the Świder River, just a stone’s throw from Warsaw. This is a really great option for a nice weekend, especially since the Świder is a shallow river, so even if you have never kayaked before, you will definitely manage.
5. Stay up to date
There are lots of really cool events happening almost every weekend – and what’s more, many of them are free. That’s how I found out about the Night Market at the Main Station. Check it out – maybe you’ll find something for yourself too? You can find
