What does Vincent think of Zuckerberg’s sudden turn? “Not suddenly, he wanted this for a long time. During the corona period, these platforms suffered. Reasonable people, including scientists, who criticized the corona policy, were quickly removed from the platforms under political pressure. That is of course not really a solid basis for the right to exist of social media.” Vincent continues: “That whole fact-checking thing is a theoretical band-aid. That is completely unacceptable: three billion people using your platform every day? I dare you. It was more of a gesture to the Biden administration. Strange to make such a big deal about it now.”
The principle of Community
Notes works, but it needs to be developed further. Vincent himself actively uses it, and your host – an avid X-user transparency in influencer marketing himself – also sees the phenomenon appearing more and more often in the timeline.
Reputation X
Is X’s reputation under pressure? “You increasingly see statements of departure. The reason was usually ‘the tone at X’, but now Musk is added clean email with his political choices and the influence he exerts on his own platform. That’s not really new either – think of Gates and Soros. It doesn’t seem to be really affecting X’s reputation yet,” says Vincent.
